Eye protection is a must when watching the Ningaloo solar eclipse, or any eclipse. Project or filter the sun’s rays to prevent damage to the eyes and burning of the retina. Never look at an eclipse without the appropriate eye protection to avoid damage to your eyes.

Here’s a few tips on how to safely witness the Ningaloo solar eclipse;

  • Supervise children and explain the danger of looking directly at the sun.
  • Make a pinhole projection… Here’s how to build a sun viewer.
  • Buy some eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers.
  • Please remember that sunglasses, cameras, telescopes, binoculars, or other optical devices are not safe for viewing the solar eclipse.

Camping at Exmouth

Sun Smart, shade and hydrate

During April, the weather in Exmouth can still be warm, with temperatures averaging between 20 and 33 degrees. Here’s our tips to help you keep cool and comfortable on a warm Exmouth day and night.

  • Drink cool water. An insulated drink bottle, such as a Yeti, with cold water will help you stay hydrated.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat. Choose a hat that can get wet to keep you shaded while swimming.
  • Stay out of the heat during the middle of the day. Check UV ratings using an app such as WillyWeather.
  • Search for shade. If you intend to camp, consider adding shade, such as gazebos, to your setup. Shelters and beach umbrellas can be used both on and off the beach.
  • Slip, slop, slap, sleep, slide. Use a high-quality sunscreen and apply it often, as directed.

Camping Comfort

Exmouth camping is a bucket list adventure for many people. Here’s our tips on how to add a little comfort to your Ningaloo camping adventure.

Buy a camping fridge

We stock a range of camping fridges, from large for families, to small for singles and couples. Whatever your setup, we can help. We carry a variety of refrigerator brands such as Kings fridges.

Light up the night

Camping with power can make a huge difference in your experience. Modern technology advances mean battery setups can be affordable and green. Inquire about our lithium batteries; the light weight and compact designs are ideal.

Invest in a fan

Rechargeable lithium-ion battery-operated fans are perfect to keep you cool on a warm camping night. We stock a range of brands, styles, and sizes, including the ever popular Sirocco caravan fan.

Cook like a camp boss

Gasmate BBQs are compact, stylish, and made by an Australian-owned company. From single burner lightweight butane stoves to gas bottle BBQs, we’ll help you find the right stove for your Exmouth solar eclipse adventure.

Relax in your camping chairs

Indulge and purchase yourself some Camec camping chairs, we think Camec chairs are by far one of the most durable and robust chairs on the market, Camec chairs are also super comfortable. Come into our Exmouth caravan store and try one out for yourself.

View our favourite Will & Wind designs!

A camping and beach mat is a great way to add a little comfort to your camping life. Throw down a beautiful mat, and you’ve created your very own picnic and beach real estate. Check out the Will and Wind Water Replant Beach Mat. We like the design of the “Ningaloo From Above Beach Mat.” exclusively design by Violeta Brosig of Blue Media Exmouth.

While you’re checking out the beach mats, don’t miss the chance to take a look at the Will and Wind sand free, quick dry Exmouth towel collection … Your very own little piece of Exmouth, you get to keep forever.

Keep the bites away

Camping can be so much fun until the dreadful sound of a mosquito begins. Protect yourself while outdoors from the nasty mosquito bite with Thermacell’s Zone Mosquito Repellent devices. Drop by our shop and check out our Thermacell range.

Our last, but not least, camping tip

Let’s talk seriously about camping and toilets. A chemical toilet is the ultimate idea of camping comfort. We stock Camec toilets and a range of toilet chemicals.

What to do in Exmouth

While visiting Exmouth for the solar eclipse why not see what else Exmouth has to offer. Here’s some things we think could be of interest while on holidays at the Ningaloo Reef.

Exmouth is famous for the iconic beach life holiday, which includes snorkelling coral reefs with turtles in clear, warm water. While you’re in Exmouth, make sure to spend some time exploring the Cape Range National Park. The Ningaloo Coast World Heritage area provides a playground for visitors, with activities like snorkelling, fishing, and swimming. Hire a snorkelling mask, snorkel and fin kits at the Exmouth Surf Centre.

Eating out

Exmouth has a range of restaurants, breweries, and cafes to choose from. Here’s a link to local restaurants to visit while in Exmouth.

Our tip… The Whalebone Brewing Company serves freshly prepared in-house pizzas and locally brewed beer. Try the ‘Beef Reefer’ with smoked pulled Bullara beef and Exmouth wild prawns topped with garlic cream sauce, it’s a pizza we all just want more of.

Shopping and Supplies

The town centre has two IGA shopping centres, a chemist, and local shops for all of your daily needs. During the solar eclipse, Exmouth is expecting a large amount of people, and our hot tip here is to organise extra scripts from your local chemist and bring your medication supplies with you on the trip.

Exmouth has a rich history that includes Aboriginal heritage, shipwrecks, lighthouse keepers and livestock farmers. During World War 11, Exmouth played a large and mostly untold role in the war. Discover all of Exmouth’s history at the local Ningaloo Aquarium and Discovery Centre. A great place to unwind and spend a few hours learning about Exmouth’s history and how it became what it is today.

The Northwest cyclone season is from November 1 to April 30. Exmouth Shire provides a free cyclone booklet, which can be downloaded. Be aware of and prepared for the unlikely, event of a cyclone while visiting Exmouth for the solar eclipse.
